It felt like Teignmouth had been waiting a long time for a film society. In January 2007, a small group put up notices around the town and nearby villages asking for contact from anyone who would be interested in attending screenings. We were overwhelmed by the positive response. It took a while, but eventually with the help of Teignmouth Community School, the British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS) and a keen and excited committee, we were ready to go.
Our first film and trial screening – Pan’s Labyrinth – was shown on 30th November 2007 with over 150 people attending. At this point, we realised our potential!
Our aim is to bring the best of British, Independent and Foreign films to the screen, and return the joy of cinema to the people of Teignmouth and Dawlish and the surrounding area.
The screenings are held in a comfortable and friendly environment and at an affordable price at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Dawlish. The theatre bar is open at 7.00pm. Screenings begin at 8.00pm.
Films are hired on DVD format for public showing from official distributors. The Society is supported by local sponsors and is a member of the British Federation of Film Societies. We encourage active involvement and welcome any comments.
Screenings are open to all; the entry for individual screenings is £5. Children under 16 can attend suitable films for free when accompanied by an adult.
We look forward to seeing you at a film screening soon. For more information please email tfsmail@teignmouthfilm.org
